It’s game week.

A season that is beginning two weeks later than originally scheduled kicks off on Friday, with LaGrange, Troup and Lafayette Christian all in action with road games, while Callaway doesn’t open until next week.

Troup, entering its sixth season with head coach Tanner Glisson at the helm, begins its season against a familiar foe, Harris County.

The two neighboring schools have played 34 times, and Troup leads the all-time series 28-5-1.

Last season, Troup held off Harris County 27-21 at Callaway Stadium.

Harris County had the ball at the end with a chance to win it, but Jabrailin Gooden sealed the victory with an interception.

Troup went 6-5 and lost in the first round of the state playoffs last season, while Harris County finished with a 5-6 record while also falling in the opening round of the playoffs.

LaGrange, with first-year head coach Matt Napier leading the way, begins its season with a game at Upson-Lee.

LaGrange leads the all-time series 5-3, but the teams haven’t played since 1999.

LaGrange is hoping for a turnaround season after going 2-8 last year, while Upson-Lee went 4-7 last year and lost in the first round of the state playoffs.

Lafayette Christian opens against Griffin Christian in a rematch of last year’s GICAA state-championship game.

Griffin Christian recovered a fumble in the final minutes of that game to outlast Lafayette Christian 19-13.

Callaway was supposed to play Opelika to open the season, but that game was canceled when the Georgia High School Association decided to push everything back two weeks.

Callaway’s new season opener will be against Troup on Sept. 11.

Callaway went 12-2 last season and reached the state semifinals for the fourth time since 2013.
