The Troup Lady Tigers started their Region 2-AAAA softball schedule in style with a 5-1 road win over Columbus on Tuesday.
Troup was clinging to a 1-0 lead when it pushed four runs across in the top of the sixth inning, and Columbus scored its lone run in the bottom of the sixth.
Maggie McDonald and Catherine Smalley combined to get the job done on the pitcher’s mound for Troup.
McDonald started and pitched five shutout innings while holding Columbus to three hits, and she didn’t walk anyone.
Smalley pitched the final two innings, and she gave up one run and three hits, and she threw a scoreless seventh inning to finish it.
McDonald also got the job done at the plate with a hit and two RBIs, while Jennifer Albertson had two hits.
Haley Cotton had an RBI while walking twice from the leadoff position, Emilee Johnson had an RBI, Casey Sani had a double, and Smalley, Hadleigh Livingston and Lexi Parker each had a hit.
Troup (4-4 overall) will go for its third consecutive win when it hosts Woodward Academy on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
