1931-2020
Johnnie Lee Simpson passed away Tuesday.
He was born Oct. 26, 1931, in Harris County, Georgia, to Johnnie and Fannie Simpson.
He united with Mt. Spring Baptist Church, and served as the Chairman of the Deacon Board and a member of Mt. Springs Male Choir.
Johnnie retired from Milliken and Company and Troup County Schools Transportation.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Person Simpson; his daughters: Alma Davis, Almega (Kenneth) Palmer, Celeste (James) Stokes, Renia (Johnny) Russell, all of LaGrange; Carolyn Weaver, Macon Georgia; two daughters he gained through marriage: Jacqueline (Gerald) Davis and Denise Hayes; son, James (Theresa) Ross, Bronx, New York; sons he gained through marriage: Ceola (Diane) Turner, Morris Turner, and Otis Woodyard; 46 grandchildren, 94 great grandchildren, 41 great-great grandchildren; brothers: Rev. Rueben Simpson, Sr. and Rev. Ollie (Ruby) Simpson, both of West Point, Georgia; sisters: Annie Pattillo and Katherine (Johnny) Jefferies, Burlington, North Carolina; aunties: Gladys Williams, Detroit, Missouri and Hattie Cameron, Chattanooga, Tennessee; sisters-in-law: Marie Simpson, Willie R. Simpson, Gertrude Simpson, all of LaGrange, Ann Williams, Fayetteville, Georgia; Jean Person, Atlanta, Georgia; brothers-in-law: Rev. Walter Hall, Rev. Charlie Johnson, and Jerry Person; and an array of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friend, Mr. Roland.
The family will receive friends in the Chapel of Lakes-Dunson-Robertson Funeral Home on Friday from 2 to 3 p.m. The service will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Restlawn Memory Gardens.
