The number of Troup County School System students in quarantine rose again over the past week, while the number of students and staff confirmed positive remained about the same.
According to TCSS’s most recent COVID-19 Dashboard, as of 9 a.m. Friday there were five students and five teachers who are confirmed positive for COVID-19. This time last week, those numbers were six and seven, respectively.
The number of quarantined students rose to 259, 37 more than last Friday. That number had risen by 25 from Sept. 15 to Sept. 18. The number of staff members also rose to 19 — last Friday there were seven.
In total, 20 TCSS schools and departments are impacted, up from 18 this time last week.
This does not necessarily mean there is a positive case at each school and department, as there may simply be people in quarantine and showing symptoms of COVID-19. Every TCSS school is affected except for HOPE Academy, THINC Academy and the Troup County Career Center.
When TCSS administrators receive notification of positive cases, they notify students and staff who were in direct contact with the positive person, which is why the number of quarantined students dwarfs the number of positive cases.
