ATLANTA – The Callaway Cavaliers took care of business.

Facing Douglass-Atlanta at Lakewood Stadium in Atlanta, Callaway cruised to a 35-0 victory to improve to 3-0.

With star running back Charlie Dixon unavailable because of an injury, LaQuize Gilbert stepped in and had three touchdown runs.

Callaway also got a touchdown pass from Demetrius Coleman to Treyon Tucker, and Coleman also had a scoring run.

Callaway’s defense, meanwhile, delivered a third consecutive dominant performance to start the season.

Callaway started the scoring late in the first quarter, with Gilbert scoring on an 11-yard run, and Blake Eubanks made the first of his five extra points to make it a 7-0 game.

With 2:34 left in the first half, Gilbert struck again, this time for an 18-yard touchdown run, and Callaway led 14-0.

The Cavaliers weren’t done scoring in the first half.

After a Douglass fumble, Coleman hooked up with Tucker for a 20-yard touchdown, and Callaway took a 21-0 lead to the half.

With 2:17 left in the third quarter, Coleman scored on a 2-yard run, and the lead was 28-0.

Gilbert completed his hat trick with a 15-yard touchdown run with 9:49 to play, and Eubanks’ extra point capped the scoring.

Callaway is off next week, and it finishes its non-region schedule with a game at Thomas County Central on Sept. 18.
