The Callaway Cavaliers are a consensus number one.

Each week, Georgia High School Football Daily puts together its composite rankings, which is the compilation of five different polls in the state.

In Class AA, the Cavaliers (3-0) are ranked first in all five polls, making them the clear number one team in the classification.

That Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Georgia Public Broadcasting, Score Atlanta, Maxwell Ratings and MaxPreps rankings are all included.

Fitzgerald is second in three of the polls and is second in the composite rankings, and Rabun County, Thomasville and Lovett complete the top five.

Region 5-AA, which includes Callaway, is well-represented in the composite rankings.

Heard County (4-0) is ranked sixth, while Haralson County (4-0) is seventh.

Callaway will begin its region schedule against Haralson County on Oct. 23, and it will host Heard County on Nov. 20 on the final night of the regular season.

Callaway has been rolling this season.

After opening with a 27-7 win over Troup, Callaway handled Hardaway 17-6 before overwhelming Douglass-Atlanta 35-0 last week.

A common theme each week has been a dominant defense, with Callaway’s opponents managing just 13 points in three games.

Callaway is off this week, and it will wrap up its non-region schedule with a game at Thomas County Central next week.

For Callaway, this season is more of the same.

Callaway’s program has been thriving under the direction of head coach Pete Wiggins, who has a 141-47 record since taking over the program in 2005.

Callaway has been in the state playoffs for 14 consecutive seasons, and it has won at least one playoff game in 11 of the past 12 years.

Callaway has made back-to-back appearances in the state semifinals, and it has reached that point four times since 2013.
