LaGrange High’s softball team took care of business on Monday, and it will look to keep the momentum going on Wednesday as the Region 2-AAAA softball tournament continues at Shuford Fields.

The Lady Grangers went 2-0 on the opening day of the region tournament, moving them within one victory of a region championship.

LaGrange will play either Troup, Columbus or Shaw in the championship game at 6 p.m.

If LaGrange wins that game the tournament is over, and if it loses, a winner-take-all game would follow.

All four remaining teams have already qualified for the state playoffs, and the top-two finishers will host a first-round series.

LaGrange opened tournament play with a 12-4 win over Columbus after falling behind 4-0, and it followed that up with a 13-1 victory over Shaw.

LaGrange has dominated every region game in the regular season and the tournament, but head coach Gabby Heath said there can’t be any let-up now.

“We’ve played all these teams already, we’ve beaten all these teams already, but that doesn’t mean when we show up on Wednesday and we’re not locked in that they can’t beat us,” Heath said.

While it was smooth sailing for LaGrange on day one of the tournament, Troup dropped its opening game to Shaw 7-6 before bouncing back to beat Hardaway 12-3.

Troup needs two wins on Wednesday to reach the championship game and guarantee itself a home series in the state playoffs.

First up will be a showdown against Columbus at 2 p.m., and if Troup wins that game, it would have a rematch with Shaw at 4 p.m.
