The LaGrange Grangers are hoping to make it a happy homecoming.

LaGrange (3-1 overall), which has won three straight games including both of its Region 2-AAAA games, will host the Shaw Raiders on Thursday at Callaway Stadium.

The game was originally going to be played on Friday, but it was moved up a day because of concerns over the weather.

Shaw (0-3, 0-1 in Region 2-AAAA) hasn’t won a game, but LaGrange head coach Matt Napier is expecting a big-time challenge.

“They’re a very quality opponent,” Napier said. “I’ve watched them twice. They’re

scary explosive offensively, and they do a good job with their physicality on defense. They’ll be another good opponent for us. That’s a big game for us.”

LaGrange, after dropping its season opener to Upson-Lee, has beaten Northside-Columbus, Columbus High and Kendrick to put together a three-game winning streak.

While the Northside-Columbus and Columbus games were fights to the finish, LaGrange overwhelmed Kendrick 48-14 after taking a 48-6 lead at the half.

LaGrange dominated the game offensively, scoring touchdowns on its first seven possessions, and the first-team defense gave up fewer than 100 yards.

Shaw, after losing close games to Chattahoochee County and Northside-Columbus, was blown out by Carver 56-12 last week.

If LaGrange beats Shaw, it would carry a 3-0 region record into a showdown with Carver on Oct. 16.

While Shaw and LaGrange weren’t in the same region the past two years, they are familiar with each other after facing off in the season finale in 2018 and 2019.

LaGrange won 16-14 in 2018, and Shaw had the upper-hand last year with a 15-7 victory.

“We’re looking forward to playing them, and preparing for them,” Napier said. “There’s a lot of preparation that goes into playing an opponent like that.”
