The Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed that the body recovered from the car of Natalie Jones on the night of Oct. 6 is indeed Jones.

Jones, a 27-year-old mother of two, went missing after being last seen leaving a Fourth of July party around 1 a.m. on July 5.

Jones’ car was recovered near Ephesus in the woods off of Roosterville Road near an intersection with Welcome Road. Family members told media that a body found inside the car was Jones, but official confirmation has now come after the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office identified her.

The car was found by a man who was clearing brush for the owner of the property, Heard County Sheriff Ross Henry said last week.

Asked if the GBI had identified a cause or time of death, GBI spokesperson Nelly Miles said there were no additional details to report yet. Miles said the autopsy results are pending further analysis.

Investigators recovered several items from the car, Henry said, but he declined to say what those items were. Henry said the car had been there “for a while.”

Her car is a pink 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier. Pink was Jones’ favorite color and was used by her family and friends in advertisements and events to raise awareness of her disappearance.

There was no damage to the car, Henry said. As of last week, Henry said there was no evidence of foul play.
