With the regular season past the halfway mark, the chase for the state playoffs among the teams in Region 2-AAAA is going strong.

There are nine teams in the region, and four of them will qualify for the state playoffs.

At the moment, Troup and LaGrange are both in excellent position to be one of those four teams, although there is still work to do.

Troup is 4-1 in the region after last week’s win over Shaw, while LaGrange is 3-1 in region play following its loss to Carver.

Carver is the region’s top team with a 5-0 record, while Hardaway is also unbeaten in region play at 4-0.

While LaGrange is in action this week against Jordan, Troup is off after its game with Carver was postponed because of Covid-19 concerns.

The Region 5-AA race, meanwhile, is just getting started.

The first region game was played last week, while Callaway has yet to play a region game since its game with Haralson County was postponed because of Covid-19.

Callaway will open region play on Friday against Bremen.
