For the 12th time in the past 13 seasons, the Callaway Cavaliers have made it past the first round of the state playoffs.

The Cavaliers didn’t even have to play a game to accomplish that this year.

Banks County, which was supposed to play Callaway on Saturday, has forfeited the game because of Covid-19 quarantine procedures.

That means Callaway will be one of the last 16 Class AA teams in the state playoffs, and it will be at home next week for a second-round game. Callaway’s opponent will either be Lovett or Pepperell, who play on Saturday.

Callaway (7-1) won the Region 5-AA championship with last week’s 30-17 victory over Heard County.
