Troup High School will be closed for in-person instruction Friday due to an increase in COVID-19 numbers.

Superintendent Brian Shumate said Troup High had a couple of additional positive cases and contact tracing would result in several administrators and teachers being out.

Students will be doing virtual instruction on Friday, and Shumate said any THINC students need to check with the THINC staff for virtual instruction.

“[This] is to keep kids safe, and you’ve got to be able to safely and productively keep the building open,” Shumate said. “They’ve had more cases pop up among staff members at Troup High, and it was necessary.”

Over the last week, Shumate said he had been watching numbers at all three high schools and at Long Cane Middle School. He said he’s consulted with the principals at Callaway High, LaGrange High and Long Cane Middle and all are comfortable with having school Friday.
