A man who had active warrants for criminal attempt murder and other crimes has died from injuries suffered in a Dec. 12 altercation, according to the LaGrange Police Department.

The LPD was notified by the Troup County Coroner’s Office Friday that Clifton Alan Callaway, 22, of LaGrange, has died at an Atlanta area hospital. Callaway had active warrants for criminal attempt murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of certain crimes.

The injuries suffered were from a Dec. 12 incident at 3 a.m., when officers responded to the 600 block of Borton Street in reference to a person shot. When officers arrived, they located Callaway suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the abdomen area.

During the investigation, LPD officers also were notified that a second subject suffering from a gunshot wound had arrived at Piedmont Hospital in Newnan. Officers responded and met with that person, who had been shot once in the arm in the same incident with Callaway.

The investigation revealed that both men produced firearms and shot at one another, striking the other.
