The LaGrange Grangers will carry a winning streak into their first Region 2-AAAA game of the season.

LaGrange (6-5) overwhelmed Heritage 73-51 on Tuesday to win its second consecutive game heading into Friday’s region opener at Columbus High.

Ten different players scored for LaGrange, which reached a season-high in points, three days after it scored 70 points in a win over Hampton.

“We were fairly balanced scoring. They played unselfish tonight,” said LaGrange head coach Mark Veal. “It’s the last tune-up before region play, and the team we play (Friday) does some things similar to what we saw tonight.”

Javon Brown led the scoring effort with 18 points, AJ traylor added 10 points, Garrett Jacobsen chipped in with eight points, and Malik Hall and Kobe Jones added seven points apiece.

Taylor Stephens, Mydarius Scott and Lataurus Swindle scored six points apiece, Avery Hill made a 3-pointer, and Qua Coverson had two points.

LaGrange started quickly, outscoring Heritage 18-7 in the first quarter, with Jones making a 3-pointer and scoring five points.

Heritage fought back in the second quarter and outscored LaGrange by three points to cut its deficit to 33-25 at the halftime break.

In the third quarter, Brown scored 10 points as LaGrange outscored Heritage 23-15 to take a 56-40 lead heading to the final quarter.

The Grangers continued to pull away in the fourth quarter on the way to the 22-point win.

In the girls’ game, the outcome was very much in doubt heading to the fourth quarter, with Heritage clinging to a 22-21 lead.

Heritage went on an 8-0 run to start the fourth quarter, and LaGrange found itself in a 30-21 hole.

LaGrange got within five when Holly Lynn pulled down an offensive rebound and scored with 15 seconds left, but it was unable to get any close, and Heritage hung on for the 33-28 win.
