The Troup County School System currently has more than 100 total students and staff members with a current positive COVID-19 case.
TCSS posted an updated COVID-19 dashboard on Tuesday, which showed that 74 students and 29 staff members currently are positive for COVID-19. A total of 314 students are quarantined due to possible exposure to COVID-19 and 31 employees are quarantined.
The quarantine number would typically be higher, given the high number of COVID-19 students and staff members with COVID-19, but TCSS was all-virtual last week in an effort to slow down the spread of the virus after the holidays.
“All these cases occurred over the break and these folks haven’t been back to work or school,” said Superintendent Brian Shumate. “This is going about like we thought it would. The extra week helped us for exactly this kind of scenario.”
As a whole, Troup County has 547 total cases over the last two weeks. Troup County has had 4,501 total cases since the start of the pandemic.
