Ernest “Boot” Gilliam passed away on Dec. 30, 2020 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born June 6, 1946 in West Point (New Harmony). He was the sixth of eight children born to Jim Gilliam Sr. and Bessie Hunter Gilliam. He was baptized at New Harmony C.M.E. Church and later united with Stewart Memorial C.M.E. Church in Indianapolis. He served on the Steward Board.
He was a 1965 graduate of Ethel W. Kight High School. Upon relocating to Indianapolis in 1966, he was employed with Shadeland Avenue Chrysler Corporation Electrical Assembly Plant until 1988. He retired in 2004 from the Chrysler Transmission Plant after 38 years of service.
He leaves to cherish loving memories, his wife, Maxine; sons: Reginald, Ryan, Bridget, Ephraim, Ernest Jared (Pauletta) and Jamichael; sisters: Jessie Cumberlander, Ethel Gibson, Ernestine Gilliams-Sims (Marshel), Shirley Gilliam; brothers: Jim Gilliam Jr. , Horace Gilliam (Theresa), twenty-one grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren.
The visitation will be Saturday at 10 a.m. until the noon funeral hour. The service will be at Phillips C.M.E. Church with burial in New Crown Cemetery.
