COLUMBUS – The Troup Tigers beat Kendrick 72-38 on Tuesday night for their first Region 2-AAAA win of the season after opening with three losses.

KJ Tucker led the Tigers with 17 points, with 13 of those points coming in the first quarter.

Jaylen Young added 15 points for Troup, Ricco Person scored 10 points, Zy Varner had seven points, and Nick Philpot scored six points.

“We played a lot better,” said Troup head coach Blake Craft. “We talked about forget who we were playing, just play our game. The kids did a good job. They played great defense. We played well.”

In the girls’ game, Troup improved to 4-0 in Region 2-AAAA with an 82-43 win over Kendrick.

Aniya Palmer led the high-scoring Lady Tigers with 26 points, Samarria Weldon added 15 points, and Jada Green scored 14 points.

Leading 17-8 after the first quarter, Troup exploded for 30 points in the second quarter to take a 47-23 lead at the half.

The Lady Tigers continued to put the hammer down in the second half, and they ended up winning by nearly 40 points.

Troup’s teams will be at home against Shaw on Friday.
