Callaway falls at Lanett

The Callaway High basketball teams crossed the state line to face Lanett on Saturday while taking a break from region competition.

In the girls’ game, Lanett outscored Callaway 12-7 in the fourth quarter to secure a 50-47 win.

Junior guard Gabrielle Johnson, who has been putting up big numbers of late, led Callaway with 20 points, and she made four 3-pointers.

Jazmine Thornton added nine points, Camryn Stargell scored eight points, and Lacy Thomas contributed six points.

The game was tied 16-16 after the first quarter and 30-30 at the half, and Callaway led 40-38 through three quarters before Lanett closed strong.

Callaway (8-6 overall) beat Lanett 48-39 last week at home.

In the boys’ game, Lanett finished a regular-season sweep of Callaway with a 74-55 win.

Demetrius Coleman led the Cavaliers with 22 points, Javontay Boddie scored 10 points, and Exavious Reed scored seven points.

Lanett was ahead 17-14 after the first quarter, 41-32 at the half, and 55-42 through three quarters.

Callaway’s girls’ team will host Region 5-AA Haralson County on Tuesday, and there won’t be a boys’ game.

Both Callaway teams will host Heard County on Friday.
