Panthers drop first game

The LaGrange College Panthers, after winning their first eight games of the season, fell to visiting Maryville College 64-55 on Thursday.

LaGrange College had a 53-51 lead with a little more than five minutes remaining, and Maryville closed on an 13-2 run to win going away and improve to 9-0.

The two USA South rivals will meet again on Saturday at Maryville.

In Thursday’s game, the Panthers trailed by 12 points late in the third quarter, but by the start of the fourth quarter their deficit was down to 49-43.

The Panthers continued their surge in the fourth quarter and took a 53-51 lead, but the rest of the game belonged to the Scots.

Jahpera McEachin led the Panthers with 18 points, and she also pulled down 12 rebounds.

Jalayla Lewis and Megan English added 10 points apiece, Jada Brown scored eight points, and Breonna Glover grabbed 10 rebounds.
