It’s do-or-die time.

With the regular season and the region tournaments over and done with, the local basketball teams will tip things off in the state tournament on Wednesday.

There are 32 teams in each classification, and the championship games will be held in the Macon Coliseum in March.

Callaway boys’ and girls’ teams and the Troup Lady Tigers will be at home, while the LaGrange Grangers will be on the road.

Callaway High’s teams, after winning Region 5-AA championships over the weekend, will host a doubleheader on Wednesday starting at 6 p.m.

First up, the Callaway girls’ team will play Union County, the number four seed from Region 8-AA.

If Callaway beats Union County, it would host either Pace Academy or Chattooga in the second round this weekend.

Callaway’s boys’ team will also host Union County, which finished fourth in Region 8-AA.

A win would set up a second-round home game against either Chattooga or Columbia.

The Troup Lady Tigers, after finishing second to Carver in the Region 2-AAAA tournament, will begin their state journey with a home game against New Hampstead on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

New Hampstead is the number three seed from Region 3-AAAA.

If Troup advances, it would play either Bainbridge or Baldwin County in the second round.

The LaGrange Grangers, the number four seed from Region 2-AAAA, will play Region 3-AAAA-champion New Hampstead on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

If LaGrange pulls off the upset, it would play Perry or Dougherty in the second round.
