LaGrange Academy advances to championship game

The LaGrange Academy Lady Warriors earned a shot at a championship with a come-from-behind 46-35 win over Oak Mountain Academy in the semifinals of the GISA Class A state tournament in Americus.

LaGrange Academy was down 25-20 at the half, and it outscored Oak Mountain 26-10 in the second half to secure the win.

LaGrange Academy will play Thomas Jefferson in the state-championship game on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Georgia Southwestern University in Americus.

Kelsey Cotton led the Lady Warriors in scoring with 14 points, Ivey Portis, Kayla McBride and Anna Beth Kinnersley scored eight points apiece, and Laura Knight contributed seven points.

LaGrange Academy still trailed by three points after three quarters, but it outscored Oak Mountain 17-4 in the fourth quarter to turn a tight game into a blowout.

Kinnersley helped the Lady Warriors put it away by scoring six of her points in the fourth quarter.
