Cougars roll it up in home win

Cason Firth’s home run helped power the Lafayette Christian School Cougars to an 8-2 home win over Konos Academy on Tuesday at the George F. Harris Baseball Complex.

The Cougars (7-3) started quickly with four runs in the first inning, and they added two runs in the second inning and two runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Trailing 8-0, Konos Academy scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

Firth had two hits, including a two-run home run in the second inning.

Nathan Karvelas added three hits, including a double and a triple, and he had three RBIs.

Landon Bush had a hit and two RBIs, Brock Tumlin had a hit and an RBI, and Adam Barnett and Tanner Jackson each had a hit.

Barnett got the start for the Cougars and he was untouchable.

Barnett didn’t allow any hits, and he worked around three walks to keep Konos Academy from scoring.

Paul Batastini pitched the final two innings for the Cougars.

Lafayette Christian split a pair of games on Saturday, falling to Pike Liberal Arts 8-7 before beating Glenwood 10-6.

In the Pike game, Firth had two hits with a triple and three RBIs, Batastini and Jacob Karvelas each had a hit and an RBI, and Landon Bush had an RBI.

Against Glenwood, Firth had two hits and an RBI, Braden Firth had a hit and three RBIs, Nathan Karvelas had a hit and two RBIs, Jacob Karvelas had a hit and an RBI, and Barnett had two hits.

Jacob Karvelas pitched three innings to get the win, and Braden Firth threw two scoreless innings to finish it.
