TEMPLE – The Callaway Cavaliers pushed two runs across in the top of the seventh inning to pull even, but Temple scored a run in the bottom of the inning to earn the 5-4 win in the Region 5-AA opener for both teams.

Those same teams will play a doubleheader on Friday at Callaway, with the first game set to start at 4:30 p.m.

In Thursday’s game, Tucker Starling had three of Callaway’s eight hits, and Andrew Locke and Eli Freeman each had RBI singles.

CJ Stephens, Bryce Hubbard and Jimmy Dukes had hits for Callaway, and Justin Moore had an RBI.

Moore was Callaway’s starting pitcher, and he threw six innings and gave up four hits and four runs with six strikeouts.

Starling pitched the seventh inning and took the loss.

Callaway took the lead with two runs in the top of the third inning, and Temple went ahead with four runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Locke’s RBI single in the top of the seventh capped the two-run rally and tied the score.

In the bottom of the seventh, Temple won it on a bases-loaded walk.
