Surging Tigers get big road win

COLUMBUS – The wins keep coming for the Troup Tigers.
Troup (14-2 overall) improved to 3-0 in Region 2-AAAA with an 8-2 road win over the Columbus Blue Devils on Friday.
Daniel Martin and Devon Murphy combined to get the job done on the mound, and Troup had a successful day at the plate against a Columbus pitcher who threw a two-hit shutout against LaGrange earlier this season.
In 3 2/3 innings, Will Nobles gave up four hits and seven runs, and Troup scored six of those runs in the decisive fourth inning.
Devon Murphy had a double and three RBIs for Troup, Josh McDonald had two hits with a double, Tre Mosley had two hits and two runs scored, Ethan Morton had an RBI, Daniel Martin had a base hit, and Mason Atkinson walked and scored two runs.
Martin got the started and pitched five solid innings, working around seven hits to hold Columbus to one run.
Murphy finished things off and pitched two innings, giving up three hits and one run.
The Tigers were clinging to a one-run lead when they came to the plate in the sixth inning, and by the time they were done hitting, they led 7-0.
Murphy had the big hit in the inning, a two-out, bases-loaded double that plated three runs.
Troup will try to stay hot when it hosts Columbus on Monday.
