All Georgians eligible for COVID-19 vaccine, but local appointments not easy to find
Soon after Gov. Brian Kemp announced that all Georgians ages 16 and up were eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine, District 4 Public Health was booked full for vaccine appointments on March 27, April 8 and 9.
DPH District 4 Communications Director Hayla Folden said that all appointments were booked full as of Wednesday.
“It’s probably frustrating for people because it seems like it’s making it more difficult for them to get an appointment, but you know that’s the supply and demand issue that we’re running into,” Folden said.
Multiple places in Troup County are also offering the COVID-19 to the general population including Publix, Kroger, Walmart, Walgreens and CVS. As of Thursday afternoon, the Walmart on Lafayette Parkway there were some appointments available starting on Sunday. Kroger on Commerce Avenue had appointments available on Wednesday for this weekend, but they were out of appointments by Thursday. To find the nearest vaccination site go to vaccinefinder.org/search/ and search your zip code.
Depending on the location, the Moderna , Pfizer-BioNTech or Johnson & Johnson vaccine may be available.
“If you couldn’t get an appointment through DPH, then absolutely try every other place you can,” Folden said. “Try every option you can find at this point. Know that you might not be able to get an appointment this week or even the beginning of next week. It may take 10 to 12 days now with almost everyone eligible for it.”
Due to ongoing system and data transfer issues that have caused delays in updating the COVID vaccine dashboard every day, the Georgia Department of Public Health is temporarily taking down the dashboard from the DPH website.
In addition to resolving the system and data transfer issues, DPH will be upgrading the dashboard to include more county level data to present a more complete picture of COVID vaccine administration in Georgia.
The fixes and upgrades to the full dashboard will be completed by the end of next week.
