Local tennis teams shine in region tournaments

It was a championship-winning day for three local tennis teams.
While LaGrange High’s girls’ and boys’ teams both won the Region 2-AAAA championship, the Callaway High boys’ team captured the Region 5-AA title.
Also, the Troup High boys’ team was third in Region 2-AAAA, while the Troup girls’ team finished fourth.
Callaway’s girls’ team was fourth in the Region 5-AA tournament.
All of the girls’ teams from Callaway, LaGrange and Troup have qualified for the state tournament that begins next week.
The Region 2-AAAA tournament was held in Columbus, and the championship matches were between the LaGrange and Columbus High teams.
Columbus beat LaGrange during the regular season, but it was a different story the second time around.
While the Grangers won all three singles matches to secure the 3-0 victory, the Lady Grangers prevailed 3-2.
For the Lady Grangers it came down to the number two singles match, and Annie Pauley won in a tie-break to propel her team to the win.
The Region 5-AA tournament was in Bremen, and the championship match was between the host team and Callaway.
The Cavaliers won all three singles matches to win 3-2 and secure the region title.
Callaway’s girls’ team lost to Haralson County in the third-place match.
