Investigators with the LaGrange Police Department have made an arrest for a murder that occurred in April.
Demonta Williams, 28, was arrested and charged with felony murder, distribution of a schedule II narcotic and the use of a telecommunication device to facilitate a drug transaction, per a press release from the LPD.
On April 24, the LPD and the Troup County Coroner’s Office began an investigation into the death of Ronald Lawrence, 28, at 302 Ragland Street in LaGrange.
Per LPD, evidence located and collected at the scene suggested this death may be as a result of an overdose. At the time of his death, Lawrence’s body was sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations Crime lab for an autopsy.
The cause of death determined during the autopsy of Lawrence was that he had died as a result of a lethal dose of the drug Fentanyl.
During the investigation, evidence collected at the scene and interviews conducted with other people, revealed that Lawrence was purchasing pills, purported to be Oxycodone 30 mg tablets, commonly known on the street as Roxicontin, from a drug supplier in LaGrange.
During this investigation, the LPD was able to obtain pills being sold by the supplier and have them tested by the GBI crime lab. When these pills were tested, they were found to test positive for Fentanyl, the drug which ultimately led to Lawrence’s death.
Williams is currently in the Troup County Jail. At the time of the arrest, Williams was on bond for an earlier burglary offense, per LPD.
