Donald R. Gregory, 93, of LaGrange, Georgia, passed away on August 19, 2021.  Born on August 4, 1928 in Union, South Carolina. He was the only child of the late Roy Fant Gregory and Christine Gregory Wright.  He attended schools in Union, South Carolina and Belton, South Carolina, graduating from Furman University in 1951.  While at Furman, he was named to the Who’s Who in American Universities, Blue Key, Quarternion, and served as president of SAE Fraternity and Student Legislature.  He always enjoyed football and was an avid sports fan, especially of the Georgia Bulldogs.  He was one of the co-founders of the LaGrange Gridiron club.

Mr. Gregory proudly served his country in the US Army during World War II before he began his working career for Milliken and Company, where he was employed for forty-one years.  He was an active member of First Baptist Church on the Square, serving as a deacon for many years, was a member of the Kiser-Williams Sunday School class, the Richard Shiver class and a former member of the Thursday Men’s Bible Study Group.

Mr. Gregory also served his community as a chairman of the American Red Cross, a board member of the Highland Country Club, a member of the Rotary Club and Heart Association, and served on the LaGrange City Council for thirteen years.

Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law: Motsy and Jack Hanna of Amelia Island, Florida, Anne and Scott Tiffin of LaGrange, Georgia and Donna and Bob Foster of Birmingham, Alabama. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren: Carlton and Adam Smart, Jay Hanna, Brittain Leverett, John and Jessica Leverett, Julie and Brandon McCurry,  Evans Smith, Robert and Anne Lyle Foster and Thomas and Lauren Foster , and great grandchildren, Bodie Hanna Smart, Jane Elizabeth Smith, Elizabeth Rose (Ellie)  Leverett, Lucy Hendricks Foster and Bruce Parker McCurry.  He is also survived by his late wife’s sister:    Julie Hendricks Lark.

A private, family celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Shadowlawn Cemetery in LaGrange, Georgia.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church on the Square or to charity of one’s choice.
