Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Beth Lewis Godwin, best buddy and wife of Wayne, mother of all mothers, Buff of all Buffs, pound cake maker, pound cake giver, supporter, and friend to so many, died at home on Saturday, August 21, 2021, surrounded by the family she loved so well.

Born and raised in Barwick, Georgia, Beth’s proudest accomplishment was her family. Her love for them was evident in everything she did. In addition to her immediate family, she adopted many other adults, children and grandchildren along the way. She had a way of making people feel uniquely special to her because they truly were.

She knew exactly what you needed to hear when you needed to hear it. She could provide wise advice and comfort to the brokenhearted. Not a single soul would want for comfort when she was around.

If you were lucky enough to experience the hospitality she shared in her home, you are better for it. There were Easter dinners, LaGrange College kids’ dinners, neighborhood Christmas parties, work brunches, endless Thanksgivings and family dinners.

She was bossy, spunky and feisty, always loved to tell a good story and loved a fresh, salty margarita.

What did Beth teach us? To love and give without restraint, always keep the door wide open and to ALWAYS have a pound cake ready.

Survivors: husband, Wayne; daughters April (Craig) Sandford, Mandy (Bobby) Nolen; grandchildren Ariel, Kaylynn, McClain, Nora Ann, Jake, Maddie; great grandchildren Channing, Beckham, Surie and Mary Katherine; Sisters Kaye (Dan) McIsaac, Lawana (Jack) Elliott, Edwina Simpson; nieces, nephews, and many more.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the LaGrange First United Methodist Soup Kitchen and/or Meals on Wheels ministries.

Service was held on Thursday, Aug. 26, 2021 at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in LaGrange. A reception followed. The family requests that all attendees wear a mask.  Higgins Funeral Home at Hunter Allen Myhand, 706-884-5626.
