Breast Friends for Life announced Dawn Chrisman as the winner of the 2021 Paint the Town Pink Quilt Raffle on Tuesday.
The Golden Sew N Sews, the quilting group of Active Life, provided the handmade quilt. Paint the Town Pink took place as a drive-thru event on Sept. 25, 2021.
Chrisman said when she was first called about winning the raffle, she didn’t know what it was about.
“I said hello and she said, ‘Breast Friends for Life. I said, ‘I don’t have time to talk’ and I hung up on her,’ Chrismas said. “The phone rang again and they said, ‘Breast Friends for Life, hold on, you won the quilt.’ I’m not used to winning. I mean you can’t beat a homemade quilt. You can’t buy quilts like homemade.”
The Golden Sew N Sews worked together for approximately two weeks on this quilt.
The group used pink pieces from past projects with Ellen Spence and Marilyn Allen to create the windmill pattern for it. The group is a part of Active Life and works to provide quilts for a variety of organizations. Many of their quilts are donated to Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a local nonprofit that builds beds for children in need.
