The Troup County Humane Society will host a 40th Birthday Bash this Sunday, Oct. 17, at Nutwood Winery. The event begins at 5 p.m. and will include a “yappy hour”, buffet-style dinner, live music, and a silent raffle.

The humane society was founded in 1978 with its doors opening on July 1, 1981, and has hosted numerous community events in the last 40 years. This has included charity events, Easter egg hunts, and trick or treating. Mandi Bono, executive director of the humane society, said one event in recent years brought a heartwarming surprise.

“We do trick or treating at the shelter where we have volunteers stationed throughout the building,” Bono said. “One year They actually had a little girl walkthrough and recognize her dog that had been missing for a year. And so they were reunited at Halloween,”

If you are unable to attend, but would still like to donate Bono, says their monetary donations are appreciated and the humane society does have things it is in need of.

“We are desperately in need of collars, medium and small collars for some of the animals. We like to send them home with the collar with a rabies tag at least already on it,” she said.

“And we are always in need of treats for the animals. enrichment is something that is limited here because we are so overcrowded.”

Tickets for the event can be bought at the door the day of the event or online at lagrangehumane.org/birthday. Individual tickets are $65 and couple of tickets are $110 and include two drink tickets.
