Mary Exa Willetts Davis, 91, of Columbus, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 28, 2021. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021 at Mountville Cemetery, in Mountville, Georgia at 11 a.m.
Mary was born on Feb. 7, 1930, in Atlanta, Georgia. Her parents were, Lucian B. Willetts and Emma Frances Owens. Her grandparents were George Franklin and Mary Gray Willetts of Winnabow, North Carolina, and Harris Daniel and Lurie White Owens of Hogansville, Georgia.
Mrs. Davis was salutatorian of her class at Girls High, in Rome, Georgia. She graduated from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee, Magna Cum Laude and Phi Bata Kappa, 1950. She taught in public school in North Carolina and Georgia, and 25 years at Hallie Turner Private School in Columbus, Georgia.
She was employed for several years by the National Security Agency in Washington, DC. Wherever she lived, she was active in church. She taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School classes. She also served as director of G.A.s for the Washing D.C. Baptist Convention.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James A. W. Davis; and her stepmother, Lillie Thrash Willetts.
She is survived by her two children, Elizabeth (Kenneth) Tow of Ft. Meade, Maryland, and Andy Davis of Longview, Texas. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Megan Marie Davis and Michelle Alexandra Davis of Longview, Texas; Also left behind are very dear friends: Debbie and Bruce Borestsky, Margaret Mosley, Virginia Stevens, June Tieken, Roselind Holland – all of Columbus, Georgia; and Betty Lund of Waldorf, Maryland, and Laura Williamson of Saudi Arabia.
