Just as temperatures began to take a drastic dip in Troup County, the LaGrange-Troup County Warming Center began to reopen its doors.

As New Ventures, who runs the center, prepares for the host of individuals in need of their services, the organization in is need of volunteers.

The Warming center needs volunteers for the following three positions particularly:

Sign In (4:30 p.m. – 7 p.m.), Dinner (7 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.)  and overnight (9:30 p.m. – 8 a.m.)

The Warming Center opened on Monday and Tuesday and will be open any day it is 37 degrees or colder outside. Visitors there can receive a hot meal, a hot shower and a warm place to sleep, said Mike Wilson, CEO of New Ventures.

In terms of donations, the center is in need of items like towels, sheets and meals. The center discourages donating clothes as it does not have the room to store it.

“Right now, our fridges are filled, but in a few weeks’ time, we’ll be back looking for shelf-stable meals, microwavable meals,” he said.

The Warming Center is located at 150 E. Lukken Industrial Dr. The center updates its Facebook regularly to announce what days it is open. It also places signs around LaGrange to announce its open days.

Those in need of the center may call New Ventures at (706) 882-7723 or the LaGrange Police Department at (706) 883-2603.

The center opens at 5 p.m. each day it is open and closes at 8 a.m. the following day. After 10 p.m., individuals will need to call the LaGrange Police Department and be escorted into the facility by a police officer.
