Dispute over puppies leads to non-lethal shooting; whereabouts of puppies and suspects unknown

A 44-year-old man was shot in the foot this week after a disagreement over puppies, according to the LaGrange Police Department. The whereabouts of the puppies, along with the two suspects, are currently unknown.

Lt. Mark Cavender said Thursday the argument occurred over the ownership of the puppies.

On Saturday, Dec. 4, at approximately 7:18 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Juniper Street in regards to a subject being shot. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the victim, who had been shot in the foot.

The victim indicated that this was over a disagreement over puppies with Jamie Maxwell, a 35-year-old white female, at the Juniper Street location.

During the investigation, it was determined that another suspect, Reginal Saffold, a 37-year-old Black man, shot the victim before both suspects fled the scene.

Both suspects face charges of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm in the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

At the time of this incident, both Maxwell and Saffold are both on felony probation, and both are convicted felons, per the LPD.

The victim was transported to WellStar WGMC for treatment and warrants were issued for Maxwell and Saffold.
