Edward Ronald “Ronny” Johnson, 74, loving husband of Joy Bass Johnson, transitioned into Heaven on Sunday, Feb. 20, 2022.
Ronny was born in LaGrange, Georgia, and has been a longtime resident of Augusta.
He attended Auburn University before serving with the 1st Air Calvary Division in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He earned the bronze star medal while serving in the Army. Ronny worked for many years as a Wheels Specialist at Fleming Tire in Augusta before retiring from American Tire Distributors. He was a member of West Acres Baptist Church and sang in the choir. He enjoyed singing Elvis Gospel Music in church and for the individuals at Gracewood State School and Hospital. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing golf with his brother and long-time friends at various golf courses.
Family members in addition to his wife include his children: Kenny Johnson (Kelly), Misty Ftorek (Sam) and Mallory Bagwell (Mike); grandchildren: Cody Johnson, Lexi Johnson, Ariana Ftorek, Savo Ftorek, Mason Ftorek, Laythen Bagwell, Caroline Bagwell, Trey Bagwell and Lani Bagwell, great-grandchild: Bentley King and brother: Randy Johnson. Ronny was preceded in death by his parents: Edward O’Neal Johnson and Jessie Mae Harris Johnson and his brothers: Russell Johnson and Ricky Johnson. Pallbearers will be Mark Adams, Paul Griffin, Bodie Hollins, Gene Hollins, Chris Jennings, Kenny Kinsey, and David Piper.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2022, at West Acres Baptist Church with Pastor Malone Morris and Pastor Larry Harmon officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. A private interment will follow.
