The Callaway girls soccer team has started this season on fire – winning their first eight games of the season. This is the best start for the Cavaliers in their history.
Callaway got their eighth victory of the season when they toppled New Manchester on Tuesday. New Manchester came into the game with only one loss on the season but were thoroughly beaten by Callaway 3-1.
Kate McAteer was the star versus New Manchester, bagging two goals and adding an assist, meaning she contributed to all three goals the Cavaliers scored. Autumn Brown chipped in with a goal and an assist as well. Keeley McGuffin put five shots on target but could not find the back of the net in the game.
A combination of Raine Hunt and Emily Lindsey in goal kept the team’s fourth clean sheet of the season. Hunt made four saves and Lindsey had two. The Cavaliers’ defense has been rock solid and has only allowed more than one goal in a single game this season, which they won 5-2.
New Manchester as had only six shots on goal to Callaway’s 16.
The Cavaliers next game is on Thursday Feb. 24 at 5:30 p.m. as they host Bowdon, which has lost the lone game they have played this season 3-0. Callaway kicks off region play next week when they host Bremen on March 1.
