Man arrested Saturday after attempting to rob New Franklin Road Waffle House

On Saturday, officers from the LaGrange Police Department responded to Waffle House located at 629 New Franklin Road LaGrange, Georgia, in reference to a robbery.
Officers on scene were advised that a male, identified as Corey Smith, 44, attempted to rob the restaurant of the cash register drawer by intimidating staff members, according to a press release from the LPD. Smith was unsuccessful and fled the scene.
Smith was located the same day at the 76 gas station and detained by patrol officers. He was identified as the attempted robber by several witnesses.
Smith was transported to LaGrange Police Department for questioning where he was subsequently arrested for criminal attempt robbery by intimidation.
The suspect was not on probation or parole at the time of the incident.
