Beginning Friday, Feb. 25, a four-performance production of “Snow White and Classical Favorites” will debut, according to a press release from Lafayette Society for Performing Arts (LSPA).
Presented by LSPA and performed by members of Lafayette Ballet Company (LBC), “Snow White and Classical Favorites” features local dancers of all ages. The performance will have four showtimes beginning on Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. at the Troup High School Fine Arts Auditorium, located at 1920 Hamilton Road in LaGrange.
Showtimes will be Feb. 25 and Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. and Feb. 26 and Feb. 27 at 2 p.m.
The ballet, “Snow White,” is a rollicking romp through an enchanted forest and into a world of envy, trickery, and true love, per the press release. The ballet production of “Snow White” boasts a combination of the most celebrated aspects of the fairy tale — a familiar cast of charming characters, an enticing plot, and a Disney-esque color palette — topped with delightful choreography, performed by dancers of various ages.
“We are beyond excited to present “Snow White and Classical Favorites,” LBC Artistic Director Amy Orr said. “Due to pandemic challenges our last spring ballet was in 2019 so our dancers have been eagerly anticipating this opportunity to perform for a long time. The first act is a one-hour family classic: Snow White. This ballet is perfect for families with young children or anyone who is young at heart. Complete with all the familiar characters, Snow White, the evil queen, and the seven dwarfs, this interpretation brings together dancers of all ages — elementary, middle, and high school Lafayette Ballet Company dancers.
The second act includes excerpts from three famous classical ballets — Paquita, Giselle, and Don Quixote danced by the Lafayette Ballet Apprentice, Junior and Senior Company dancers.”
These historical works of art have been wonderful for our older dancers to tackle, Orr added.
“Our audiences are in for a treat of color, costuming, lighting, and of course beautifully refined choreography,” she said.
The four-performance production adapted for the stage and performed by Lafayette Ballet Company dancers is sure to be an awe-inspiring spectacle.
Snow White and Classical Favorites is the second LSPA production in the 2022 year, with the 25th Azalea Storytelling Festival, Little Women, The Nerd, the YSWG Spring Concert, And Then What Happened, Suessical Jr. to follow through June.
