Lazy Lizard Furniture, a local custom furniture builder and woodworking company, is partnering with CASA of Troup County, Inc to raise money for the nonprofit. According to a press release from Lazy Lizard, the company will donate 10% of its sales toward CASA as a thank you for all the program offers to the children of the LaGrange community. CASA of Troup County, Inc is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children in foster care throughout Troup County. By advocating for children who have experienced abuse or neglect, volunteers amplify each child’s voice and help change a child’s story Recently Lazy Lizard co-owner Allen Santos had a chance to sit down and speak to the executive director of the CASA program, Matthew Moncus, and discuss any opportunity that the local family run business can do to help.
“That conversation was amazing,” Santos said. “We were made aware of the recently proposed budget cuts that will heavily impact the organization and we decided that we had to do something. Local nonprofit programs all over the country, like CASA that are funded through the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) funds will see a drastic decrease is available funding. Locations all over the country have seen a decrease as high as 37%. It’s heartbreaking because the Victims of Crime Act funding is so important to these programs. I couldn’t believe anyone would consider cutting or reducing the funding.”
