Active Life of LaGrange hosted its annual St. Patrick Day’s celebration Wednesday, giving its numerous participants the chance to press their luck and win some quality prizes.

Participants vied for prizes in the celebration’s Irish Gig competition, table decoration contest and costume contest.

The grand prize for the winners of the table decorating contest included going first in the lunch line. The winner for best dress was Mildred Smith with Ruby Harper coming in second place. Gerri Barrington won the Irish Gig competition.

Jessica Maddox, the Active Life of LaGrange’s site manager, said the turnout was one of the larger ones since the pandemic.

“Our goal here is to promote healthy living, expand our participants’ lifespan and provide a place for socialization, so by doing things like this, people have a lot to look forward to,” she said.

Judging the contests were Patrick Crews, Troup County Board of Commissioners Chairman and Patty Jiles with the Troup County Parks and Recreation Department.

The event was Crew’s fourth year as a judge.

He said he was impressed and proud of the turnout.

“One of the greatest projects accomplished by the county commissioners is this Active Life building,” he said. “We are very fortunate as a community to have this facility.”
