WEST POINT—The West Point Welcome Center on I-85 northbound will be closed for six weeks, beginning April 18, 2022, to allow for vegetation removal, according to a press release from the Georgia Department of Transportation.

The vegetation will include removing several trees around the center so that maintenance work can be performed on the building, one West Point Welcome Center employee specified.

With this closing, there will be no public access during this time, including restrooms and parking areas. The welcome center is expected to reopen in late May, GDOT said.

If traveling towards Lanett, Alabama, guests may redirect to the RaceWay or any of the fast-food restaurant facilities located five miles northeast of the welcome center.

The West Point Visitor Information Center on I-85 is located along a corridor known as “The Ray” and is one of nine visitor centers along the interstate in Georgia, according to Explore Georgia.
