1932-2022

Mrs. Bobbye Jean Holderfield Fincher, 90, of LaGrange, passed away on April 1, 2022.

Mrs. Fincher was born on March 16, 1932, in LaGrange to the late Olin Hilt Holderfield and Mattie Dewberry Holderfield.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Leon Fincher and a great-grandson, Tristen James Clark.

Survivors include her daughters, Lesa Cleaveland, Carole Alley (Tom) and Luanne Fincher; grandchildren, Larkin Dorsey (Drew), Jenna Sherrer (Jason), Jordan Hasenmayer (Jeff), Joanna Alley, Heather Clark and Steve Freeman (Ariel); great-grandchildren, Cole, Mason and Emma Dorsey, Ella Cate and Hayden Sherrer, Lincoln Hasenmayer, Dakota Parkey and Harlowe Madison; extended family and friends.

Mrs. Fincher’s love of Christ was evident in all that she did.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church on the Square for over 70 years where she was active in the Ruth Sunday School Class, the Evelyn Kirby Bible Study and Merry Makers.

Bobbye retired from the I.E. Department of the Hillside Plant of Milliken and Company with over 20 years of outstanding service.  After retirement, she was a substitute teacher and loved working with the students and teachers.  She did most of her substituting at Ethel Kight Elementary School where she was lovingly known as Miss Bobbye.

Bobbye loved her family and friends and was always doing for others.  She spent many hours as a hospice volunteer and working with the Adult Literacy Program where she taught many adults to read.

Bobbye was an excellent cook and gardener and loved nothing better than sharing her cheesestraws and tomatoes.  She loved animals and always had a dog to keep her company.  She was an avid sports fan and in addition to cheering on her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, she loved the Braves and Tennessee Lady Vols basketball.

One of her favorite pastimes was playing games with family and friends.  She was always happy to play Yahtzee, LCR, Rummikub,  dominoes – chicken foot and bridge. It was not unusual to find her in the backyard watering her tomatoes or sitting on the patio watching the birds and enjoying a bottled coke.

Throughout her life, Bobbye treasured her many friends.  Whether she was swimming with the “bathing beauties”, attending luncheons at the Senior Center and various churches or traveling, the “cronies” as she so lovingly called them filled her life with precious memories, as well as laughter, love, and support.

A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held noon on Saturday, April 9, at Higgins Hunter Allen Myhand Chapel.  The Reverend Paul Blair will be officiating.  The gathering of family and friends will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 9 at the Higgins Hunter Allen Myhand Funeral Home.
