The Callaway baseball team beat Northside 7-2 on Friday.
The Cavaliers got the scoring started early with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. CJ Stpehens launched a three run homer over the left field wall to get the scoring started. Stephens has been on a tear as this was his second home run in back-to-back nights for the Cavaliers.
The Patriots answered back with a run in the top of the second inning to cut Callaway’s lead down to two runs before adding another run in the fifth inning to trim the lead down to one.
The Cavaliers answered the bell with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Stephens got it started when he reached first on an error to drive Aver Hewell and Andrew Locke home. Blake Sheppard followed this with a RBI single to drive in Bryce Hubbard.
Houston Wilson scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning to round out the scoring for the Cavaliers.
Ace pitcher Justin Moore got the start on the mound and pitched six innings allowing two earned runs and six hits on seven strikeouts. Hubbard came in to close the game out in the seventh inning as he did not allow a hit on one strikeout.
Sheppard got the only multi hit game for the Cavaliers as he went two for three with a RBI, but the night belonged to Stephens as he went one for two with three RBIs and a walk. Hewell got the only other hit for the Cavaliers on the night.
The Cavaliers improved to 18-6 overall and maintained their 10-2 record in region play. The Cavaliers only have two games remaining on the docket with their next game away to Trinity Christian on April 21.
