The Lafayette Alliance hosted a student art competition this semester for 10th, 11th, and 12th-grade students.
The competition coordinator was Dr. Christiane Price, a board member of the Lafayette Alliance. The competition prompt was for students to paint the Chateau de Lafayette alone or with the grounds in whole or in part. The Chateau de LaGrange-Bleneau is thirty miles east of Paris, France. It was originally constructed in 1363 and served as a home for the Marquis de Lafayette from 1799 until his death in 1834. He referred to it simply as “La Grange.”
The local art teachers who supported the competition were Tiffany Ammerman from LaGrange Academy and Roy Bowden from Lafayette Christian School. The competition judges were Laura Jennings, director of the LaGrange Art Museum, and Professor Marcia Brown with LaGrange College.
The winners were Emma Prestridge from Lafayette Christian School in the first place; Whitt Bowden from Lafayette Christian School in second place; Leah Ward from Lafayette Christian School in third place and Chloe Harrell from LaGrange Academy as an honorable mention.
The Lafayette Alliance plans to hold another student art competition again next year.
