The Troup National all-star 12u team is getting ready for the Georgia Dixie Youth Baseball tournament in Morgan County. The tournament will take place July 14-17 as the Nationals will get a chance to play some of the best community baseball teams from across the state.

“I think we have what it takes to win state and go up to North Carolina for the World Series,” coach Jake Hembree said.

The team started practicing together on June 1 and has held practice every Monday-Thursday since and is taking this opportunity very seriously. The team already has two wins over Beulah and another over Roanoke. The team is looking for even more teams to scrimmage as they try and get as much game time together before the tournament kickass over in a couple of weeks.

Hembree is aided in the coaching department by Todd Mitchell, Cory Matticola, and Larry Waldrop. Hembree calls Matticola “the brains of the operation.”

The team is made up of 11 of the best 12-year-olds in the county as well as one 11-year-old, Tae Pope. The other 11 players are Woods Carter, Brady Hembree, Hayden Browning, Chris Lewis, Roy Claybrook, Tyler Langford, Landon Allen, Calen Mitchell, Carter Pelt, Jackson Waldrop and Xander Stinson. These 12 individuals represent some of the brightest 12u talent in the county and will look to represent the area well later this month.

The Nationals head to Morgan County later this month with a chance. Hembree has been involved with the parks and recreation department for over five years and this is the most talented team he can remember having assembled.
