Mr. Charles Benjamin Smith, 86, of LaGrange, Georgia passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at his residence.

Mr. Smith was born on May 31, 1936, in LaGrange, Georgia to the late Jim Smith and Nannie Hanson Smith.  He loved and faithfully served the Lord. He was the eldest founding member and Deacon of Grace Baptist Church, where he served faithfully, leading choir and congregational music.  He played a vital role in the founding and building of the church.  He could always be found on the job when construction work was being done.  One of his greatest joys was serving the Lord and being available for those in need.  He was faithful to visit the sick and shut-ins.   He was also a charter member of Teaver Road Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon and Director of Music for 29 years.  Charles lived his life following the Christian values instilled in him of faith, integrity, and hard work.  He was a master carpenter and utilized his skills in a selfless manner to benefit others.

Mr. Smith was loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. 

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Rebecca F. Smith; daughter, Joanie L. Henderson and her husband Tony Henderson, son Charles B. Smith Jr. and his wife Angie Smith;  grandchildren, Brooke Kinney and her husband Jacob Kinney, Chase Henderson and his wife Katie Henderson, Chad Smith, Drew Smith, and Grant Smith;  great-grandchildren, Kaden Kinney, Harper Grae Kinney, Bentley Henderson, and Reynolds Henderson; nieces, nephews, extended family and special family friends, Sherrie and JD Watts.

The family will receive visitors on Saturday, July 23, 2022, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home at Hunter Allen Myhand in LaGrange, Georgia.  A Celebration of Life will be held at Grace Baptist Church on Sunday, July 24, 2022, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Donnie Benefield and the Rev. Jimmy McMillian officiating. Interment to follow at Shadowlawn Cemetery. 

Flowers will be accepted, or donations may be made to Grace Baptist Church Memory Garden Fund.
