Five candidates have officially qualified to fill the LaGrange City Council District 2 seat of the late LeGree McCamey. Qualifying closed Friday at 4:30 p.m.

Candidates who qualified to run for the position include Leon Childs Jr., (Nonpartisan), Ashley AC Cousin (Democrat) and Israel Prince Barsh (Nonpartisan), Marquavious “Quay” Boddie (Independent) and Maiya A. Dowell (Nonpartisan).

To gain the seat, one candidate will need a vote of 50% plus 1 vote in order to avoid a runoff, said Elections Supervisor Andrew Harper.

The election will be held on November 8, the date of the mid-term elections nationwide.  In the event of a runoff, an election will be held on December 6.

McCamey’s term had two more years when he passed away in January.
