Troup High is set to host the annual Hope for a Day softball tournament on Saturday starting at 10 a.m. The three local public schools – Callaway, LaGrange and Troup – come together to offer support to those that have been diagnosed with breast cancer. The event will cost $10 with the proceeds going to H.O.P.E. for a Day organization.

“The teams in the county come together, and we play for a great cause,” Troup head coach Ryan Simpson said. “The girls are super excited, and we’re hoping for a good turnout and some good ball games.”

The event rotates around the three schools with 2020 being at Callaway and 2021 at LaGrange High. This will be the first time Troup has hosted it since Simpson took over as head coach and she is looking forward to it.

“I have participated in it, but since this is just year three for me I have not gotten to host,” Simpson said. “I’m excited to finally host it.”

The teams will wear variations of their typical uniforms as all three will shed their regular colors and replace them with pink. Rivalries are put to the side even though the teams will come into Saturday looking for a pair of wins.

Callaway and Troup open proceedings with a game at 10 a.m followed by Callaway vs. LaGrange at 12 p.m. Region rivals LaGrange and Troup will duke it out in the final game of the day at 2 p.m.

“Any time you’re going up against a crosstown rival, it’s a little different atmosphere,” Callaway head coach Josh King said. “I expect my girls to be locked in.”
