On Wednesday morning, we were watching live coverage from other media outlets regarding a shooting on Interstate 85 in Auburn, Alabama.
Not long after, we received information that a similar shooting had occurred on Interstate 85 in Troup County. Immediately, we wondered if the two shootings were related, and we asked law enforcement. Based on Facebook comments, a lot of you did too.
As it turns out, there weren’t only two shootings on I-85 Wednesday morning. There were actually three, with the third happening in Montgomery, Alabama before the Auburn shooting.
Thanks to some great, quick police work, the alleged shooter, Jerel Raphael Brown, was arrested Wednesday afternoon in LaFayette, Alabama before being arrested by Chambers County sheriff’s deputies.
At this point, we have no idea what the motive was behind the shootings, but it’s terrifying to think about someone driving down Interstate 85 and randomly shooting at other vehicles.
We’re thankful the suspect was caught quickly, arrested and is off the streets. Interstate 85 is, of course, one of the busiest roadways in the Southeast, especially during weekday mornings.
Now, thanks to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office, Auburn Police Department, the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office and more, it’s much safer to travel down.
