The Panthers kick off the season away against Berry College this Saturday, Sept. 10, at 6 p.m.

The team is looking to bounce back from a tough 2021 year when it went 2-8 overall and 2-6 in the USA South.

Berry is coming off an exciting win in week one over Maryville College, beating them in the last 30 seconds of the game.

“Berry is a solid team who has always been sound in all three phases, and they are going to play extremely hard after their week one win,” said Head Coach Earl Chambers. “We know they are running emotionally high right now, but we can’t worry about them. We need to focus on us and strive to get 1% better each day when we are between the lines on that turf. We need to play hard-nosed Panther football.”

The Panthers are an experienced team, especially on the offensive side with nearly every starter returning, including quarterback Shedrick Lindsey and All-American tight end De’Queze Fryer.

“I’m looking forward to seeing how our guys will respond,” said Chambers. “We had a really good camp and matured a lot in terms of being more physical and conditioned. We are excited to see how we will respond to adversity, and excited to see who our playmakers will be on both sides of the ball.”

Veteran offensive lineman Len Spivey is ready to get the season rolling.

“We’ve got a good group of guys,” he said. “We’ve got the most returners that we’ve ever had since I’ve been a part of this program. I think we’ve got a shot to really do something special.”

After non-conference games against Berry and Ferrum to begin the season, the Panthers open USA South play against Methodist on Sept. 24 at Callaway Stadium.

The final seven games of the regular season are against conference opponents.

While nearly all LaGrange College teams have moved to the new Collegiate Conference of the South, Panther Football will remain in the USA South Conference.
